If you are searching for a Rottweiler puppy, BE CAREFUL! Investigate the breeder, get references and ask plenty of questions. Buying a puppy with serious health problems is a real heartbreaker. A few questions you can ask: Does the breeder do health testing? OFA Hips is the bare minimum. Ask to see the OFA results certificate. If they say, “Our dogs are healthy, we’ve never had any problems, so we don’t need to do OFAs,” then you need to keep looking. How are the parent’s temperaments? Ask about their lines and if any dogs in their lines have had aggression or shyness. How are the puppies raised? Is the breeder aware Rottweiler puppies need plenty of handling and stimulus?
Exposing Rottweiler puppies to many different environments and situations lays the groundwork for a well adjusted, confident adult. Frequent handling and socialization takes time and effort, but the resulting dog is well worth the effort. Are the puppies fed a quality large breed puppy food? Rottweiler puppies grow so quickly that the wrong food can result in joint problems that can last a lifetime. Does the breeder guarantee at least the hips? What about the elbows, heart and eyes? Read the fine print. If they don’t do OFA health-testing, chances are they won’t offer any real guarantees. What would they do with all the puppies they got back? These are just a few of the questions you need to ask before choosing your new Rottweiler puppy. If the breeder can answer these to your satisfaction, chances are you’ve found a good one!
